Gran Reserva 1996

singular vintages

Gran Reserva was only produced in two unique vintages in which the landscape and winemaking conditions allowed us to express its origin in an extremely genuine way.

  • Varieties: tinto fino (75%) cabernet sauvignon (20%) and merlot (5%).
  • Alcoholic by volume: 14%.
  • Soils: limestone texture with red clays and white loams. Low granulometry and high water retention.
  • Altitude: around 850 meters.
  • Harvest: manual, in boxes of 15 kg.

Elaboration:

  • Aging: 24 months in American and French oak barrels.
  • Clarified with natural egg white.
  • Bottled in February 1998.

Sensory tasting:

  • Color: high layer. Intense cherry red, ripe, with very soft tile tones.
  • Aromas: complex, highly expressive, bouquet of ripe fruit, toasted aromas with spicy tones, tobacco and licorice.
  • Palate: the attack is smooth, glyceric and fleshy. The palate is savory, tannic and enveloping. Long aftertaste and complex final sensations, with ripe fruit prevailing over subtle and well-assembled wood.
“Pago de Carraovejas Gran Reserva, just two vintages of an exceptional wine”.
