Cuesta de las Liebres, 100 Gourmet Points
Cuesta de las Liebres has once again reached the top. The Guía Gourmets has awarded it 100 points, an honor that will be presented today, April 15, at the Salón Gourmets, and which will be accepted by Pedro Ruiz Aragoneses and Almudena Calvo on behalf of the entire team at Pago de Carraovejas and Alma Carraovejas.

Cuesta de las Liebres 2021 has earned 100 points—the highest possible rating—for the second time this vintage. While Jeb Dunnuck’s 100-point rating, awarded by his Spanish wine critic Virginie Boone, was announced last summer, the new Gourmet 100-point ratings—which included Cuesta de las Liebres—were revealed last fall. In recent years, various wines from Alma Carraovejas have achieved maximum scores or scores very close to them, reflecting sustained work in the vineyard and in the winery.

Milsetentayseis Red 2022, Aiurri 2022, and Peña Caballera 2022 made it onto James Suckling’s list of the best wines in Spain. A few months ago, Cuesta de las Liebres, along with El Anejón and Milsetentayseis, were included on Tim Atkin’s list of the best wines from Ribera del Duero. Peña Caballera also received 97 points last December in the prestigious Parker magazine. Recently, the three wines produced at Pago de Carraovejas (Pago de Carraovejas 2023, El Anejón 2021, and Cuesta de las Liebres 2021) were selected for the World’s Best Sommeliers’ Selection list.
Cuesta de las Liebres was planted in 1994 on the upper part of the Carraovejas hillside. The first wine from this plot was produced in 1998 from this vineyard, characterized by a steep slope, the vertical trellis that takes advantage of this incline, and its south-facing orientation. Its first vintage already hinted at a distinct profile within the Ribera del Duero: more tension on the palate, greater freshness and balance, and a clear aging potential.
This new recognition confirms a clear approach: interpreting the vineyard with precision and allowing each vintage to express its own character. The 100 points are a result of this path.
