Pago de Carraovejas enters the list of the 20 best wineries in the world

  • The project that gave rise to Alma Carraovejas has been ranked 18th by the prestigious ‘World’s Best Vineyards’ ranking, which since 2025 has been part of the ’50 Best’.

  • This award recognizes the best wine tourism experiences in a year full of successes for Alma Carraovejas.

Pago de Carraovejas has been recognized among the 20 best wineries in the world according to the prestigious World’s Best Vineyards 2025 list, an international ranking that distinguishes the most outstanding wine tourism experiences on the international scene. At the awards ceremony, held today in Western Australia, the jury awarded 18th place to the Alma Carraovejas project.

The 50 Best Vineyards recognize the Peñafiel winery as a preferred destination on the world map of great wine experiences. This award is given in recognition of the quality of its wines, as well as its comprehensive visitor experience, sustainability, and innovation. As of this year, the list is part of the 50 Best, better known for its ranking of restaurants, hotels, and bars around the world. The 50 Best Vineyards list is compiled by a jury of experts from the wine sector, sommeliers, journalists, and specialized travelers, and rates projects that offer an exceptional wine experience. The selection includes wineries from five continents and represents an international benchmark in the promotion of quality wine tourism.

Pago de Carraovejas has maintained a firm commitment to excellence, sustainability, and respect for the landscape of the Carraovejas Valley, where it originates. The winery offers a complete experience that combines gastronomy, nature, and wine, in a commitment to sharing the culture of a unique territory. The Ambivium restaurant, located in the Pago de Carraovejas winery itself, has a Michelin star and two Repsol suns to its credit and masterfully complements Alma’s liquid offerings with unique gastronomic creations based on the environment and sustainability.

“This recognition is the result of many years of hard work by the entire team and an understanding of wine that stems from its origins, the landscape, and the people,” said Pedro Ruiz Aragoneses of Alma Carraovejas. “It inspires us to continue showing the world the richness of our environment and the passion we have for what we do every day.”

50 Best

The World’s Best Vineyards ranking is presented annually at an international event that brings together the most outstanding wineries and the leading figures in wine tourism. Its aim is to recognize those destinations that turn a visit into an unforgettable experience.

Alma Carraovejas has achieved this distinction after a year full of successes thanks to the recognition obtained by its wines and the experiences of the different wineries that comprise it. Just a few weeks ago, Milsetentayseis Tinto 2022, Aiurri 2022, and Peña Caballera 2022 entered James Suckling’s ranking of the best wines in Spain. In August, among other accolades from wine critics, Cuesta de las Liebres 2021 scored 100 points in the American publication Jeb Dunnuck. In recent weeks, Cuesta de las Liebres has also scored 100 points in the Spanish magazine Gourmets. Recently, this wine, along with El Anejón and Milsetentayseis, has been included in Tim Atkin’s list of the best wines from Ribera del Duero.

For its part, Ambivium won the prestigious Star Wine List competition last January with the best wine list in Spain and represented the country at the international awards.

This award adds to other recognitions achieved in recent years, such as being named one of the world’s top 100 wineries by the prestigious publication Wine & Spirits. World Best Vineyards has previously included Pago de Carraovejas in its list of 50 to 100. In terms of sustainability, one of the most important recognitions has been the achievement of B Corp certification in 2025, which certifies the philosophy that permeates Alma Carraovejas and which it strives to embody in everything it does.
