After an extreme 2017, climate conditions were favourable in 2018. From the winter, the precipitation, in the form of snow and water, restored the balance that the vineyard needed. The wet spring, along with snowfall and cold, lasted until April. This amount of accumulated water favoured the vigour of the plants that were naturally controlled through the use of plant covers. The work of the viticulture team and a hot summer helped control the vineyard’s strength, benefiting an optimal end of the cycle and, consequently, a great vintage. Harvesting took place between 29 September and 12 October.

The terraces of the El Anejón plot welcome you to the Carraovejas valley. Its uneven relief makes it a natural amphitheatre in front of the privileged views of Peñafiel Castle. It is one of the first terraced plots in Ribera del Duero and one of the scarce examples of terraced vineyards in the entire appellation. The soil of its terraces has the texture of a very compact limestone loam. The presence of white calcareous salts contributes, together with other factors, to give the wine a unique minerality. The aromas of flowers and the balsamic touch of an unprecedented ecosystem show the liveliness of the evironment.

After exhaustive monitoring during the ripening cycle and an initial selection in the vineyard, the grapes are harvested by hand in small crates. The bunches go through a cold chamber and selection table where each grape is carefully selected. Fermentation in small French oak vats aims to enhance the singularities of the terroir. The wine is transferred to new extra fine-grain French oak barrels through gravity flow. To provide greater protection the wine contains sulphites. The El Anejón 2018 vintage was bottled in spring 2020.
