After an extreme 2017, climate conditions were favourable in 2018. From the winter, the precipitation, in the form of snow and water, restored the balance that the vineyard needed. The wet spring, along with snowfall and cold, lasted until April. This amount of accumulated water favoured the vigour of the plants that were naturally controlled through the use of plant covers. The work of the viticulture team and a hot summer helped control the vineyard’s strength, benefiting an optimal end of the cycle and, consequently, a great vintage. Harvesting took place between 29th September and 12th October.

The Cuesta de las Liebres vineyard sits on a steep slope with a rich biodiversity. The vines, planted in a vertical vase, border the upper part of a pine forest in which various native species of flora and fauna coexist. The whitish-coloured calcareous salts are visible in a terroir of limestone marl. These elements, together with the area’s mesoclimate, are distinctive features that allow the vineyard to con-vey a character full of energy and authenticity. A great spot, where Tempranillo shows its purest expression.

Cuesta de las Liebres grapes were harvested by hand after exhaus-tive monitoring during the ripening cycle and after an initial selec-tion in the vineyard. It was transported in small boxes to the winery, passing through a cold chamber and selection table. The grape must was moved by gravity, and the alcoholic and malolactic fermenta-tions were carried out in small wooden vats. In order to mark the personality of the terroir, our own yeasts were used during this process. The wine was aged for 24 months in new extra fine-grain French oak barrels. The 2018 vintage was bottled in the spring of 2021.

Cuesta de las Liebres 2018 defines the virtues of this steep slope and the extreme viticulture that takes place here. Vertical goblet-trained vineyard, surrounded by scrubland. The structure and complexity of this wine reflect the commitment to nature, terroir and the history of the environment. The cradle of an exciting tempranillo. The expression of a precise and pure vine.
